1. Genealogy database
Stockport Local Heritage Library has an extensive collection of family history guides and reference books on genealogy to help you build your family tree. There is free access to the Ancestry and Find My Past websites. This is an example of what we have in our collection. We also have a selection of digitised indexes and other documents below. We also have an online genealogy database.
This database carries details of thousands of local people compiled from local trade directories published between 1772 and 1845. You can view the database and type a surname into the search box.
If the name you're looking for has various spellings just type the first few letters. For example typing “Patt” will bring up Patten, Patterson and Pattinson. However only the top 100 matches are shown, so for more common names like Smith type the whole name.
